Coventry Classics Ltd has two sister companies, Southair Ltd and Mainland Air Services (2010) Ltd.
Southair Ltd, established in 1963, is an aircraft maintenance and restoration company based at Taieri Airport Dunedin. Classic aircraft restored in recent years range include Piper Cubs, Austers, Cessnas, De Havillands and a Harvard and the biggest job to date the total 5 year rebuild of a De Havilland Rapide to concours condition. Currently undergoing a full restoration is a very rare De Havilland Leopard Moth.
Southair has a fully certified engine overhaul shop specialising in Lycoming, Continental and also Gipsy engines.
Our Coventry Jaguar engines are overhauled by the experienced Southair engine shop staff.
Southair engineers maintain our Mainland Aviation College fleet of 15 Piper and Cessna training and charter aircraft.
Mainland Air Services (2010) Ltd
Mainland Air has a professional pilot training division and an air charter division and is based at Dunedin International Airport and has a fleet of 15 training and charter aircraft.
Mainland Aviation College trains pilots from ab initio through to the full commercial pilot’s licence, multi-engine instrument ratings, flight instructor ratings and air transport pilot licence qualifications. Mainland has about 40 full time enrolled students and caters for domestic and international students. Students graduate from Mainland with a full commercial pilot’s licence and ratings and a New Zealand Diploma in Aviation. Many of our student graduates are hired by Mainland upon completion to work for Mainland as charter and air ambulance pilots. In addition to the normal Cessna fleet of training aircraft, Mainland also uses a Cessna 180, a Piper J3 Cub and a Cessna 152 Texas Taildragger to deliver tail wheel ratings and training in mountain flying.
Mainland has a busy regular charter business and also operates an air ambulance service using our Piper Chieftain aircraft.
